Black River Memorial Hospital is planning a $13 million expansion and renovation of its main building on Adams Street during its 50th year.

Groundbreaking is planned with July with completion in 2020.

The hospital was renovated in 2007, but health care has undergone significant changes since then.

There has been a significant shift from inpatient to outpatient services, and demands for that service is exceeding current capacity.

The 2016 community health needs assessment validated mental health and substance abuse as concerns for residents of Jackson County.

Mary Beth White-Jacobs, CEO, said, “Our mission of providing excellent service requires us to look at how we are meeting the needs of our community. We realize there are gaps in local health services and this leads to struggles for families and patients to find care. This project will improve service offerings in many areas which helps our staff, patients and the community.
