BLACK RIVER FALLS -- City officials forgot about their 2018 mayoral race.

The city announced this week that the election for mayor won't appear on the April 3 ballot after the city failed to include the mayoral race in its spring election notice.

Mayor Jay Eddy said confusion over the length of the mayor's term led to the omission.

"I thought I had a four-year term and I never said anything," Eddy said. The term for mayor is two years.

Black River Falls city administrator Brad Chown acknowledged the oversight.

"None of us caught it," he said.

The oversight will create a vacancy when the Black River Falls City Council meets April 17. The council is likely to make a temporary appointment until a special election can be held.
