Growth is happening in Black River Falls and Common Council members want to make sure the city is prepared for it, they said at a July 6 meeting. Part of those preparations are making sure there are enough liquor licenses available for businesses moving into town.

The previous limit was four and the council approved the increase to six, but that vote came after some intense discussion.

Some alderpersons felt the increase was unnecessary and would create a slippery slope when even more businesses want to come in.

“I think four is enough, are we just going to keep increasing it every time someone asks?” Alderperson John Ross said. “Where do we stop?”

Ross’ feeling was that by increasing it now the council would be forced to increase for the next person who asks.
