Members of the Jackson County Farm Bureau will hold their annual meeting at noon Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Steve and Pat Kling Party Barn in Taylor.
All Farm Bureau members are encouraged to attend this important meeting to help create policy resolutions and vote in elections for county board directors.
The county’s voting delegates also will be selected for the WFBF Annual Meeting in Wisconsin Dells Dec. 1-3.
As a grassroots organization, it is Farm Bureau members on the county level who set the policy goals of the state’s leading farm organization. The Wisconsin Farm Bureau is often asked to get involved in issues affecting production agriculture and rural Wisconsin both in Madison and Washington, D.C.
This fall, Farm Bureau members across the state will be crafting, discussing and forwarding policy recommendations on emerging agricultural issues.
Made up of 61 county Farm Bureaus, the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest general farm organization representing farms of every size, commodity and management style.

The measurement of progress is at times an inexact science akin to the eye of the beholder. Not every advancement of science or latest technology equates to progress.
I’ve thought about that often this summer as my work commute takes me past the construction zone of the northern portion of the Badger Coulee Transmission Line project. The 186-mile powerline runs from Holmen to near Madison and will cost an estimated $580 million. It is a joint venture of American Transmission Co. and utilities including Xcel Energy and La Crosse-based Dairyland Power Cooperative
The project was years in the making and there were many in support and against. The application approved by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission in 2015 said that the project will improve electric reliability, provide lower-cost power and bring more wind power to customers. It will become part of a transmission grid and connect with the CapX2020 high-voltage line from Minnesota.
